Lego (not mine), 2000s

This lego artefact is no longer in my possession, but it spent quite a while on my desk in June 2017, so I decided it merited inclusion here too. It belongs to a student of mine who I’ll leave anonymous. I teach Museum Studies on the MSc Science Communication at Imperial College London. This term we did an exercise around caption writing. I asked students to produce objects that spoke to the idea of inspiration in science, and we spent long, productive hours drafting short captions that told their stories. This lego figurine told a story about play, and imagining superheroes, and the inspiration that brought. It’s very far from what inspired me as a child: it’s here to remind me that we’re all, in a good way, different.
